About Me – Dr. David P. Goldstein

I grew up in a small town in central Pennsylvania.

In high school I knew fairly well that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Our family doctor who was my mentor was a great role model. Being a small town physician who knew his patients by their first name instilled in me the type of values that became a priority in the type of doctor I desired to be. In my current practice of medicine with my patients and colleagues I try to continue to follow these values in my practice.

Having found my way to California years ago I have been fortunate to have experienced a fulfilling professional and personal life. And this is the same goal that I have for my patients. I enjoy spending time with my family which also includes my dog Max and our horse, Conti.

I enjoy my two favorite hobbies: The first is flying and I currently have a private pilot’s license. I also enjoy acting and taking classes in Improvisation.

My Credentials

Dr. Goldstein is an El Camino Health Psychiatry Affiliate

Bachelor of Science Degree from Pennsylvania State University. I enjoyed four years in the snow of central Pennsylvania; Penn-State-Band: most of all I enjoyed playing in the Penn State Marching and Concert Bands in which I played the French Horn.

Medical Degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical college at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (formally Jefferson Medical College). I received an excellent education at Jefferson and had my first experience living in a big city.  Interesting fact about Sidney Kimmel Medical College: Founded in 1824, Sidney Kimmel Medical College has awarded more than 31,000 medical degrees and has more living graduates than any other private medical school in the nation.

Internship at United States Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. I had good training but was totally exhausted at the end of the year after being on call every other night for one full year. The year I left they changed it to every third night. I came a year too early.  It was exhausting but an honor to serve and learn at such a historic facility. The Portsmouth Naval Hospital, constructed 1827-33 on Hospital Point, was the earliest Naval Hospital built in America, and has provided medical facilities for Naval personnel for more than one hundred and fifty years, through the majority of America’s wars and conflicts, beginning with the Civil War.

Flight Surgeon in the United States Navy for three years. It was a very exciting time as part of the curriculum was learning to fly.  What is a flight surgeon?  A flight surgeon is a doctor who works with members of the military and astronauts in space. Each aircraft or space shuttle mission has a dedicated flight surgeon who treats pilots and crew members. A flight surgeon also make sure service members are mentally and physically healthy enough to carry out their missions before the missions depart.

Obstetrics and Gynecology – Residency at Stanford Medical Center. I enjoyed delivering 2,000 plus babies but discovered a whole new meaning for the word exhausted.

UCSF-Mt-Zion-Medical-Center Psychiatry Residency at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco, CA. It was a wonderful experience and training. I had great consultants that made the three years a truly unique experience.

MBA at University of California at Irvine. This was a whole new ballgame and I found it fascinating and so different.

San Mateo County Maternal Child and Adolescent Advisory Board for seven years. It was rewarding to me to work with and give back to the community.

Private Practice in Psychiatry for the last twenty years; prior to that practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Now I am doing what I really love to do. I enjoy my work and I enjoy my patients.

El Camino Health Psychiatry Affiliate: For over 20 years I have been a psychiatry affiliate at El Camino Health in Mountain View, CA, which means additional resources are available if needed (Dr. Goldstein listing at El Camino Health).
